WINDOWSEATS, DESKS, and OTHER SEATING
WALTON AVE WINDOWSEAT
From an idea to sketches to a cardboard mock-up to a computer model, this project came to life slowly but came together fast. My clients wanted a window seat that could be both a storage space and and entertainment center to maximize the use of space in a small living room. The design gave them ample room to store and display their DVD and VHS collection and an outlet installed in the floor of the cabinet keeps cords hidden and tidy within the unit. As a bonus, I made some unused real-estate in the window seat to create little shelves to display their trinkets.
49th STREET BAY WINDOW DESK
This was a fun challenge. I got to work with some absolutely stunning quartersawn white oak from Alderfer Lumber out on the Susquehanna. The desk was meant to seat two, so of course we had to test it out. Installing something like that is a bit of a logistical challenge -- but no mind -- we hauled up through the window what we couldn't fit on through the stairs and I built a temporary support structure to hold the top while we convinced it into place. Grace Gallagher came in for the win at the install.
TOWNSEND STREET BANQUETTE
With the help from brilliant electrician Ash Fritchze, I fabricated this bench to maximize storage: a drawer in the front and hinged lid in the back. We used Prado outlets to create a sleek look but allow access to power. Guy's Upholstery in South Philly did a fantastic job on the backs and seat cushions.
49th STREET WINDOW SEAT
This was a collaboration but most of the credit goes to Grace Gallagher for designing and fabricating the boxes and the front panels to maximize the storage space. I fabricated the tops that open with invisible hinges and painted everything. I also fabricated the window sill and apron to match original trim details.
IKEA BAY WINDOW & WINDOW SEAT
With the talented Matt Jeffs, I built this bay window display when working at IKEA. We wanted to showcase one of Philadelphia's most iconic, yet difficult to furnish architectural features. I designed and installed the trim work on the interior. I also designed the concept for the exterior trim work at the top, but Matt really brought it home on the detailing, creating a stunning dentil that compliments the crown. I created a windowseat using off-the-shelf IKEA cabinets and some clever joinery.
